Method
In a small bowl, mix the Diamond Barley with the water to make a smooth paste with no lumps.
Bring the milk to a gentle boil in a saucepan.
Lower the heat and pour in the barley paste slowly, stirring all the time.
Simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until the porridge turns smooth and creamy.
Turn off the heat and stir in the sugar or jaggery and cardamom. If using honey, add it once the porridge has cooled slightly.
Serve warm, topped with nuts or raisins.
Barley porridge is one of the simplest ways to enjoy FIBO Diamond Barley — a warm, mild bowl that's easy on the stomach and quick to make on busy mornings.
Tips
- Make the paste first. Mixing the barley with a little water before it goes into hot milk keeps the porridge lump-free.
- Thicker or thinner: it thickens as it cools, so loosen it with a splash of warm milk before serving if needed.
- For little ones: skip the nuts and keep it plain or lightly sweetened. Check with your doctor before introducing new foods to infants.
Make it your own
For a savoury version, cook it in water with a pinch of salt and a little ghee, or add mashed banana or chopped seasonal fruit on top.
